Tanzania Burundian Refugee Crisis
Nyarugusu Refugee Camp, Western Tanzania
In the past few months, the Nyarugusu Refugee Camp has more than doubled in population. Nestled into the red earth of western Tanzania, the Nyarugusu camp has seen more than 80,000 Burundian refugees arrive, adding to the already 60,000 mostly Congolese refugees, many who have been living in the camp for years. The camp has reached a breaking point, desperately in need of new shelters, water and supplies for what is soon to be one of the largest concentrations of refugees on the continent.
